PROFILE

           The relevance of studying Economics has increased manifold in the present globalized world.  Today, the subject has influenced all knowledge-based disciplines and has become an integral part of them. At Charaibahi College, the Department of Economics has been functioning since the inception of the institution. The Program offers courses like micro and macro-economic theory, Indian economy, public economics, monetary economics, mathematical economics, statistics, environmental economics, developmental economics etc. These courses provide the fundamental skills that are essential in terms of the theoretical and empirical cum practical aspects of the discipline. The basic objective of the department is to impart knowledge of economics to students of undergraduate level by keeping in mind that the students of the college belong mostly to rural and economically weaker section. The department organizes National Seminars, Webinars, Workshops and other Extension activities from time to time.

• To understand the policies of economics in National and International level
• To make students familiar with techniques for the analysis of contemporary economic problems
• To develop strong numeracy and statistical skills
• To prepare the students to work in different fields like Civil service, economic and statistical service, banking, teaching etc.
• To enable the students to acquire various skills which they can use to deal with real-life situation
• To conduct seminar, workshop and group discussion etc.  

Facilities

          The department is run by three well experienced and dedicated faculty members. The department follows strictly all academic activities as per guide line of Gauhati University. Course completion and internal examinations are conducted timely as per academic calendar. Provision of slow learners and remedial measure for the same is also available. The department has own library with about 150 books. Students can use these books without any barrier as per library rule. The department has its Wall Magazine named “Orthonoitic Dorpon” to grow talent of students through their own expression. There is one departmental computer to conduct departmental activities and keep records.
