Brief Account of the Department:

         The Department of Assamese of Charaibahi College was established on the16th, August 1990. Gauhati University has permitted to open Major course in Assamese in T.D.C 1st year class from the session 1999-2000. At the time of its establishment Late Bipin Chandra Nath, Renu Modoi, were the permanent faculty members, and late Golok Chandra Deka, Sri Padma kanta Nath and Md. Hasmat Ali were guest lecturers. Late Bipin Chandra Nath was the first Head of the department. At present, four faculty members have been working in the department. The department strictly adheres to the professional ethics in imparting education to the students, and lays special emphasis on professionalism along with socio-cultural and environmental ethics in pursuing and increasing knowledge. Education on gender discrimination, societal inequality, Human Values and skill development have been provided to the student’s community through the syllabus prepared by Gauhati University. Besides imparting education on intellectual and mental development, the department also provides a three months certificate course on Yoga for the physical development of the students. 

Vision of the Department:

  1. To make the students self-reliant and self-confident through quality education so that they can utilize their potentiality in their future lives and become responsible citizens of the country
  2. To make the students well aware and well prepared for placement in different fields providing them quality-oriented education and through mentoring

Mission:

  1. To work together for the creation of self-reliance and building up of self confidence among the students
  2. To develop the Assamese language into a higher stage as well as to develop the writing skill of the students a wall magazine and an annual magazine have been published every year
  3. To develop the research skill of the students seminars and symposia have been arranged
  4. To make higher education easily accessible to the rural and economically backward students
  5. To sensitize the students towards the socio-economic and ethnic problems such as gender discrimination, caste distinction, exploitation, and environmental issues, human rights and patriotism.
