BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

          The Department of Education, Charaibahi College was started from 1996-97 session, seven years after the establishment of the College. The Department came into being as an independent Department with the joining of Shikhamoni Das as a faculty member. The subject was taught as a general course since 1997. After two years another faculty Nazma Begum had joined in this College in 1999. With the increase in the number of the students and responding to the demand of the time the major courses in the subject was started in 2010-11 session. Since then a number of students have been offering Education as a major subject. In 2005 another faculty named Neelakshi Rajkumari joined in this Department. At present the Department has two fulltime teachers and two guest faculties named Dr Shikhamoni Das, Dr. Nazma Begum, Madhusmita Baruah and Bhanita Devi. Madhusmita Baruah and Bhanita Devi have joined 2011 and 2014 respectively. Students are admitted in honours course strictly on merit basis. Students largely come from rural background and from low and middle income group. Students are mostly proficient in mother tongue.

FACILITIES:

          Normally lecture method is used in teaching learning process. Digital classrooms are used for comprehensive teaching. Apart from this procedure, tutorial classes, home assignment are also arranged by the faculties and group discussion, seminar etc. are also arranged among the students. Teachers are available beyond class hours for academic interaction with students. The Department has its own library which has a quite good collection of books. It has one computer and internet facility. It has a laboratory with necessary equipments. The teachers of the department are always available for personal guidance to the students. They are very helpful to the students and encourage them for future prospects. Teachers are regularly mentoring the students as their needs. In addition with difficulties are encouraged to have personal discussion outside their class room. Due to this the students’ teacher relationship in the department has always remained excellent. Students feel free to seek advice from any teachers at any time of the day in the department.

1. To impart advanced knowledge for nurturing the student’s hidden potential to make them outstanding in life and try to develop confidence in them to accept success and failure in life.
2. Preparing the students with appropriate life skills and knowledge to match with the current employment requirements.
3. Promoting the scientific ideas and the use of technological advancement and innovation inside and outside the Department /College and thereby help them to realize their dreams and aspirations to create a better society.
4. It tries to develop the sense of self-confidence among the students to face the challenges
