Brief History of the Department of English Dealing with a core subject of the college, the Department of English has been its important and integral part since its inception in 1990. Initially, the Department functioned with only General English as compulsory subject for all first and second-year undergraduate students (non-semester). The Department introduced “English Major” in the year 2000, which has been currently familiar as “English Honours” since 2019 under CBCS curriculum. The Department works with an aim of creating a student-centric learning environment. It also aims to ensure a holistic development of the students with seminars, lectures, workshops, group discussions, field trips, remedial classes, and mentoring. Students are always encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities like sports, quiz, essay writing and cultural programme etc. Experts from different arena of life, social and environmental activists, literary luminaries and faculty from other colleges / institutions are often invited to provide the students and teachers with the opportunity to interact and discuss on various topics of literature as well as other current issues of relevance. The Department always encourages students to participate in various Days, Observations and cultural functions.
